Hit A Home Run: Ways To Nail A Class Presentation

Learning is not one-sided, students do not learn only by sitting for an hour or more in their seats and listen to their teachers talk about the topic. It is also vital for a learner to express themselves to promote self-confidence, independence, and intelligence.

Class Presentation/Reporting is one way of doing that either will it be the individual performance or by the group; this action will help students further. As teachers, we need to help our students draw knowledge for their own and the strength to express it. The only struggle of this is that all students are fond of being on stage; the reality is they're all different from one another and they have different mechanisms in terms of expressing themselves. Nevertheless, all students must undergo this at least once or twice in their schooling existence.
Here are pieces of advice for students preparing for a big presentation.

1. Show a personality

When I say personality I am referring to your inner showmanship. Everybody has a showman bone inside us and it is very crucial to show it at the moment of presentation. Whether it is to impress or to explode confidence, as long as it will help you be comfortable in situations facing a crowd, well in good.

2. Explain not Read

One of the greatest presentation crimes of all time is reading the material. I hope I am not the only one who thinks that this is true. In reality, the material you are presenting is an excerpt of the topic assigned. It is only vital to write keywords or short phrases about it but it doesn't include you just reading it and be done. A key to a good presentation is an explanation, you need to expound on the topic given and use the keywords on our presentation as catapults to the overall narrative or exploration of the topic. Research and knowing your topic to present is also important.

3. Improvise

In the presentation, unexpected hurdles or questions will be asked. Which you might not be fully prepared for. So you must use your witts and improvise. If there might be technical difficulties with your presentation you need to present it in an old fashion, or if you are asked a question about the topic but no idea how to answer it you can just provide your insight and honesty and just provide follow-up once you fully know the answer to the question.

4. Be Mobile

A good presenter involves the audience in his presentation. So it is very important to engage. Just standing up like a frozen popsicle in front is not a good thing; it will only promote intense nervousness or worst forgetfulness. Being mobile on your presentation allows you as well to know how to pique your audience's interest, allows you to think clearly, and buys you some time to internalize when stuck.

5. The Golden Rule of Three (Aristotle)

In the great mind of Aristotle, we wrote in his book "Rhetoric" that people tend to learn new things or memorize information by remembering three things. In this sense, your audience interest is in the spectrum of a ten to fifteen-minute time frame, before they lost interest. So rather than stressing yourself to insert so much information in your presentation, make sure that within the minutes of the presentation you already express the important information.

6. Know it! Own it!

Own the presentation, go with presenting with the mindset that you know what you are doing. As the presenter, it is best to believe in yourself you can deliver the presentation. No amount of preparation can make you confident if you do not believe in yourself.

7. Check, Practice, and Rest

Finalizing everything is important. Do not go half-baked in your presentation, practice your blocking and phasing, memorize and collect your thoughts, and recheck everything. After all of that rest before the big day, avoid stressing and believe in your own work.

The world of presenting is a crucial occurrence, nobody is born a presenter, but you can be one. Willingness to present is something you should forge in yourself, learning can be presented not only by teachers but also by students. So be open to present/report it can help you built your confidence.
