Teaching is a profession that promotes hope, wisdom, and success. In any part of the world education is a big part of society's economic growth. Getting an education is important!
As a teacher, there are times when we wonder if teaching is the only alternative role for us. We impact so many lives, but does it impact our own lives. In light of this, I've known many people who are education graduates but never literary pursue becoming a full pledge educator. The majority of them diverted to a different profession/field that is either completely different from being a teacher to a closely related education field.
Disclaimer: All of my posts are for entertainment purposes only. All of this is base on my real-life teaching experience. I just want people to find a relatable topic; please do not come for me.
So a person with an interest in diverting to a different route using my skills, qualifications, and talent in teaching. I have done some reading and research on careers, I believe that teachers who are looking for alternatives like me might find it interesting.
1. Private Tutor
Teaching a high volume of students sometimes is too much for teachers. This leads to unwanted stress and fatigue. As private tutors, teachers can still enjoy teaching without the buzz of classroom management, loads of paper works or stressful time management. Private tutoring offers more flexibility and this industry is booming.
2. Trainer (Corporate Set-up)
Being teachers allows us to have specific soft skills that are useful in a corporate setup. Companies that offer learning and development training will benefit from teachers with experience in courses and learning schemes that target interpersonal and intrapersonal growth and development. As well for teachers looking for a more corporate approach in working becoming a trainer might be an option, it also allows teachers to learn technical skills offered by the company.
3. Learning Support Agent
Educational growth and development sometimes cannot be achieved with just the help of a teacher or a school. Learning related to specific skill sets needs to be supervised to show potential improvement. Learning support entails a various range of targeted support outside your normal classroom set-up. Some companies utilize this especially if the teachers or students also need further assistance on tools to use for learning, seeking advice, therapy session, or more. Interaction is minimal for this role commonly drives or a problem-solution approach.
4. Education Writer/ Publisher
Writing is a teaching ability all teachers are required to master. Using your vernacular language or the universal language as teachers we need to be proficient when expounding our thoughts and putting them into writing. Creating lesson plans, curriculums, modules, exams, written activities, school materials, resource contents, and more are all intellectual properties a teacher can explore as a profession. Becoming an editor or copywriter is also an alternative.
5. Youth Worker
Organizing camps, field trips, outings, clubs, and more is your go-to, involving yourself in youth work is perfect for you. This role is responsible for being a middle man of the youths to the community. Letting everybody be involved and feel supported is an impactful career. It also enables teachers to develop a voice and social influence for the betterment of the community.
6. Learning Consultant/ Subject Matter Experts
Teachers often do have subjects or skills that they specialist. Some industries need advice or consultation in these areas. Providing insight, corrections, adjustments, and academic support is vital. If as a teacher you are well verse becoming a consultant or expert can be your future profession. The vital key for this role is to ensure that your research, insight, and recommendation are at par with the school's needs and further development.
7. Freelance/Part-time Teacher
Teaching is an innate role, we choose to teach. But of course, if you are seeking more fluid and time well spent becoming a full-blown educator might not be the best for you. Some school offers part-time or freelance teaching roles which omit the idea of becoming a class adviser, following the normal jam-packed schedule of a teacher, and initially going to school regularly. Practically it is still being a teacher but more open time to do other things.
Becoming an educator is not just a role you need to fill in; it is still your choice to pursue roles that you think will benefit you. Might it be within the education industry or not, a job is a job as long as you are happy and gaining from your chosen role. You are doing fine!
