Test Prep: Mindset of an Exam Taker

The dreaded moment has arrived. The lessons are over, chapters and modules are dealt with and a piece of paper is handed out that will summarize everything you have learned.

The question in every student and teacher alike is:
  •     Did I/they learn?
  •     Did anything I have read/discussed retain?
  •     Will I/they pass this semester?

The key goal of assessment taking is to not test students learning in totality, but rather see how learning occurred in the span of three hundred sixty-five days. We have to accept the reality that learning occurs every day and everywhere, it might not be inside the classroom, but the learning does happen when we place our mind into it. Exam or assessment will allow you to know the capacity of our learning prows, mastery of subject matter, and lessons/skills that needs further study.

The goal was never to make study suffer; the goal was to measure learning. Students often think that exams are created to make their lives a living hell; which is not the case. Students who suffer from taking the exam could be because of two major things: 1. They didn't prepare or 2. Teachers didn't teach properly, simple as that. As teachers, it is our obligation to educate our students in a necessary way, and as students, it is their responsibility to learn, master, and apply learning.

Below are some details all exam takers need to consider to ensure that they are mentally prepared to take any exam.

1. Literary Prepare
2. Be Calm & Relax
3. Listen to instruction
4. Memory Bank
5. Read & Follow Instruction
6. Anwer with Time in Mind
7. First Impression is the BEST answer
8. Be Positive

Mind setting is something every person needs to consider in doing anything. People are built differently, we could not force anybody to do something they are not. But we set expectations and condition our minds to know the outcome we want. Exams will not entirely summarize what type of student you are, it will not also be the measurement of our entire being. Exams are created to test certain areas of our learning ability, take exams objectively and do our best. No matter the result, we are identified by our actions and not our test scores.
