Things Your Teachers Will Not Admit Part 1 (Trigger Warning)

Being a teacher is like wearing a costume every day. We tend to portray a character before facing our students, co-workers, parents, admin, or whomever. But in reality, teachers are human, and sometimes deep inside our minds, we have certain thoughts that we do not dare to show.

Disclaimer:  I am speaking base on experience, I am not prioritizing anybody or generalizing the teaching community. I am not also sharing this to scare off future teachers. I am just telling this for pure entertainment and relatability. Please do not come for me.

Let me tell you, the things I am now willing to admit.

1. Teachers do freak out!

Teachers are considered masters of classroom management. We are taught in college that as a teacher we need to show confidence, brilliance, and grace inside the classroom. But little everybody knows, all teachers have mental freakouts (multiple times), especially when things do not go according to plan. But as a great actor once said "the show must go on". Teachers need to act snappy and are required to act accordingly. So if your teachers are doing their best, please we nice. They might just have a mental freakout, you just didn't see it.

2. Favoritism

Let's be honest for a moment! If students do have a favorite teacher. Teachers do have a favorite student. I know a lot of you will raise an eyebrow, for who am I to say that all teachers do favoritism. I am not! I am stating that some teachers do have favorite students (I know I do) and there is nothing wrong with that. I mean as long as we do our work, we are not biased in terms of grading; having a favorite student is not a crime. In reality, we cannot please all of our students, same as them. Not all students can please use it, but some do.

3. Disliking principal/admin/co-workers

I will not be a hypocrite and tell you all, "I love everybody, I work with". To be honest I dislike some of them. In an institution where there is so much diversity and difference, it is normal to have clashed and to be frank not all clashes led up to growth or development. Rather it leads to pure misunderstanding and constant dysfunction. Again I am not generalizing the teaching community, but again let us be realistic this instance happen. As long as the job is done, nobody gets hurt, and students do not get involved. I think teachers could work on these conditions.

4. Blue moments

There is a saying "We should not bring our personal troubles at work" and yes I agree but sometimes we cannot do this. People commonly perceive that teachers are creatures free from a troubled life. That our personal life is just a figment of our imagination, in reality, it does affect a teacher's constitution. Students sometimes do not see for teachers are good actors or students are just oblivious.

5. Living a budget life

Sigh! Where to start! Let me clarify I am speaking from experience, I am not generalizing the teaching community. Teachers do scrape by living on a tight budget. Others do think that being a teacher makes you rich; some perception sees this career as easy for you just face a bunch of students and get paid. Yes! But that is a part of it. Teachers do overtime or extra work without literal pay. We attend school events on weekends, even though it is supposed to be our day off, we could not afford proper medical care for teachers who are not allowed to get sick. So yeah! We are rich, with love from our students but not in the wallet area.

In conclusion, being a teacher is hard work. We are not immortal beings, we are humans. We have ups and downs, we get distracted, we get tried, we lose money and we get sad. But no matter what, teachers are here to stay. So please be kind to your teachers, it will always make our day.
