Seven Tips To Promote Successful Teaching

A teachers' success is reflected in our students. If they do well, it means we might have made an impact on their lives. Education is a serious business we can either make or break a student.

I am no stranger to the struggles of being a teacher, herding souls in the right direction has its difficulties. So here is a list of actions we can practice to be a successful and effective teacher.

Disclaimer: This post is purely for entertainment only. All of my posts roots in my own experience and I hope many will find it relatable and fun. Please do not come for me.

1. Knowing your students!

As the second parents of these students, it will not hurt to know their stories. Knowing your students will allow you as a teacher to know how to teach them properly. This is also an opportunity for your students to know you as a teacher to build a harmonious relationship. Inside the classroom, teachers are the captain of the ship we should not be considered as a stranger on the ship we drive. Conducting open-forum and one-on-one sessions will allow us, teachers, to expand our role. We educate our students but at the same time, they view us in many forms.

2. Consistency

In this field of educating young minds, do not be surprised anymore by changes. For change is the only constant thing in the world. But inside the classroom being consistent matter; getting to know your students are a different matter, but if we are going to talk about teaching, making decisions and abiding the school rules. As a teacher, we need to pick a lane. Consistency is difficult to master especially if we do not have the confidence to trust our own judgment, that is why we need to be careful. There is a saying "Think before you act" and I highly recommend we do that as teachers. Our decision will affect the lives of different people and being consistent matters.

3. Be up-to-date!

Let's face it, sometimes teachers are labeled as oldies. There is a misconception that we do not know the latest trend or what is happening in the world for we are too busy making lessons. This may vary from one teacher to another; it is your choice to not know anything. I am just stating that as teacher reliability is important. We need to use our wits and surrounding as a tool to teach and if we fail to be up-to-date we might end up stuck in an old mindset.

4. Communicate

The key to any successful relationship is communication. Teachers are masters of communication, we convey information in different ways. We get new information, and we give new information once we establish communication. In my experience, the art of communication is tricky the tone, the manner, the situation, and the delivery should always be considered. Communication is effective depending on our audience and how committed we are to our delivery.

5. Empathize

Everyone is going through something. Whether is it easy or difficult life is challenging no matter how you look at it. As a teacher, we need to have a heart that empathizes; we need to always look ourselves in the shoes of our students to better evaluate the situation and how to help them. We should not be oblivious to the idea that everything is okay, nothing is wrong. Believe me, having that mindset will cause you negatively. As teachers, we need to always check the morale and mental welfare of our students; they spent half of their entire life with us so allow them to feel what they need to feel, and teaching them how to cope with what they feel is part of a teachers' job.

6. Observe and create!

Depending on the situation, teachers should not act or decide harshly. We need to observe and evaluate the situation. We need to look at three major keys as a teacher, the students' welfare, our welfare, and the school point of view. So observing is important, out of our standard observation creating is essential. If something works for others, it doesn't mean it will not work for you and yet sometimes it will only work for them and not for you. So in this opportunity creating is one of many aspects teachers need to explore. Let us not box ourselves on limitations. We could do more.

7. Risk Takers!

Adventure is one way to explore new learning. Even if we are inside that classroom or conducting classes online. It should not limit us to take new challenges for better learning. Encourage your students to try new and inventive ways to learn, as a teacher we need to stir our students to directions of self-discovery while we ensure their safety and well-being. Let is not be a box on doing traditional learning style, we can incorporate new elements to learning as long as we know its projected outcome. Take a risk, learn with your students.

Nobody is perfect, as teachers we have to open our minds to the possibility that we will omit mistakes. But it is not an excuse to effectively and efficiently do our jobs. Our students depend on us, and we have to deliver as educators.
